MTV offers lyrics to Devo songs on their web page. But they got
frightened by the title of Devo's famous "Are we not men" song, and
couldn't bring themselves to write "Jocko Homo" on their page.
It's no accident. They have a page listing every track on
all of
Devo's
albums — and each of the 11 times "Jocko Homo" was
included in a compilation, MTV changed its name.

Ironically, I discoved this while researching the way Devo's lyrics
were
being
changed by Walt Disney Records. (Devo's songs were re-recorded in
2006 by
five cute Disney children as a band called "Devo 2.0".)
What was Devo's motivation for the Disney album? I'd wanted to believe
Devo was leaving behind a secret message for a
generation born 45 years after the original members of Devo.
Devo even
wrote a new song especially
for Disney's band of pre-teen singers. Was it a manifesto for
revolution, hidden out in plain sight?

But then I made a horrifying discovery.
Devo 2.0 was re-recording a song Gerald Casale had  written
to mock President Bush — but Disney demanded they use entirely different lyrics.
